MiniGame Compo

Well, it’s that time of year again! Actually, it’s been that time of year for, well, the whole year now hehe I’ve kept an eye on it to see if there would be any NES representation, but there hasn’t been any participation what-so-ever from our community of devvers. I decided to go ahead and put aside Elusion of the Dead and make something for the 4kb category.

At first I thought it would take me awhile to do, because, well, it’s me :P Once I got on a roll though, it seemed like things were just coming to me on how to do certain aspects. I’m actually pretty proud of the way I handled the enemy speed, and the randomizing of the virus placement in the game. I felt like I knew what the hell I was doing!

Crap, I’m ahead of myself. Well, the game I made is called !Clik!, and it’s basically just a game where you run around and pick up things (virus crap, in this case), and dodge electric bolts. It’s pretty basic, but man, I definitely think it has turned out to be the most fun game I have made yet. Anyway, yeah, it ended up only taking me 3 days to spit it out, and I was sitting here expecting it to take me at least a month. So this makes me pretty proud, dern it : )

There are still some things that I would like to touch up on it, but I’m going to be sure and keep it under 4k even after the compo is over with. It just seems fitting to do so, and the limitation is kind of nice to mess with. Knowing that you only have that little space to code in is pretty fun for some reason! This is probably part of the reason why I would like to make a 2600 game someday.

Well, that’s all for now. I’m pretty happy with this project, so that’s what counts! If you want more info on the MiniGame Compo, well, go to the MiniGame Compo website and check out some of the games that have been submitted. I’ll tell you now, it’s always impressive to see what folks can do with such limited space!

Okay, here’s a link to my game submission, along with source, of course of course! !Clik!: Rom and Source
